Building outlines has been created on behalf of Queensland Reconstruction Authority (QRA) for the purpose of performing rapid damage assessments for natural disaster events. They have been captured via automatic processors with minimal manual input. Emphasis is on identifying these structures rather than accurate outlines. High density areas, such as SE Queensland, may have a greater number of inaccurate building outlines. It is suitable for use in emergency management and in the production of web based mapping applications. It should be interpreted and utilised correctly. |

The primary objective of this dataset is to display automatically generated buildings, equal or greater than 10m2 with minimal manual input. Emphasis has been placed on identifying presence or absence of building structures rather than high accuracy of outline geometry. Building outlines are initially derived from the LiDAR dataset’s classified point cloud. Outlines are derived from points assigned with the Building class in the point cloud (class 6). The outline geometry is simplified using an orthogonal polygon simplification algorithm. Items marked as current in the status is the latest available data.
