This dataset shows Phascolarctos cinereus (koala) Habitat Suitability Model delineating core habitat for the species across remnant and regrowth vegetation within the South East Queensland (SEQ) regional planning boundary area (also referred as ShapingSEQ). Koala habitat areas are matter of state environmental significance (MSES) for the purposes of the State Planning Policy 2017 (SPP). |

The Phascolarctos cinereus (Koala) Habitat Suitability Model (HSM) provides the delineation of core habitat for the species and includes a representation of known and potential habitat. Core habitat is designated using rules defined by experts and through a modelling process. Habitat suitability models (HSM) may be used to inform planning decisions, Biodiversity Planning Assessments (BPAs), Aquatic Conservation Assessments (ACAs) and Essential Habitat under the Vegetation Management Act 1999. This dataset is an exact replica of the mapping used to map South East Queensland (SEQ) koala habitat areas under the Nature Conservation (Koala) Conservation Plan 2017. It used for the purpose of MSES. All enquiries should be directed to the custodian of the koala habitat area map. MSES mapping is viewable to an allotment scale from the SPP Interactive Mapping System (IMS), available at planning.dsdmip.qld.gov.au. The mapping data can be obtained for use in a geographic information system (GIS) from the Queensland Spatial Catalogue (QSpatial) at http://qspatial.information.qld.gov.au. A MSES mapping methodology can also be located on the EHP website at https://www.ehp.qld.gov.au/management/planning-guidelines/method-mapping-mses.html. |
