snippet: For the assessment of current and future land use planning and development in the South East Queensland Koala Protection Area, against the South East Queensland Koala Conservation State Planning Regulatory Provision (SPRP). This is in accordance with the s20 provisions of the Sustainable Planning Act 2009 (SPA), which are intended to ameliorate environmental degradation, reflecting the policies and intent of the South East Queensland Regional Plan (2009-2021). SEQKPA (Version 1.2) maps both Assessable Development Areas and Koala Habitat Values over the seven most populous local government divisions of South East Queensland. This area is defined as the South East Queensland Koala Protection Area. The Assessable Development Area defines where the development assessment requirements of the South East Queensland Koala Conservation State Planning Regulatory Provisions (Koala SPRP) apply. The assessable development areas include 'priority koala assessable development areas' (PKADA) and 'koala assessable development areas' (KADA). The PKADA areas are derived from the existing Koala Coast boundary (covering Redlands and parts of Brisbane and Logan) and the ex-Pine Rivers local government boundary. The KADA areas are derived from the 'Koala Conservation Areas' and 'Koala Sustainability Areas' mapped under the Nature Conservation (Koala) Conservation Plan 2006, and the Interim Koala Habitat Protection Areas mapped under the Koala Conservation State Planning Regulatory Provision February 2010 (no longer in force). The Koala Habitat Values mapping was initially derived from a comprehensive koala habitat assessment and mapping project commissioned by the Queensland Government and has been recently updated through extensive public consultation following the release of SEQKPA Version 1.1 (including the application of a ‘generally not present’ layer following DERM assessment). The selection of individual land parcels is based on the January 2010 edition of the QLD Digital Cadastral Database (DCDB).
