This dataset represents version 2.7 of the Queensland Biodiversity Planning Assessment. The dataset is an amalgamation of all completed and released Biodiversity Planning Assessments (BPAs). Biodiversity Planning Assessments use existing data to assess ecological concepts such as rarity, diversity, fragmentation, habitat condition, resilience, threats, and ecosystem processes in a uniform and reliable manner across a bioregion. In addition, expert knowledge is used to identify features such as wildlife corridors and areas with special biodiversity value (e.g. centres of endemism or wildlife refugia). The overall biodiversity significance is derived for each spatial unit based upon combinations of these values. This information can be used as an aid in environmental impact assessment, and as an information tool when undertaking land planning and conservation exercises. |
