description: The Pest Distribution Survey 2022-23 describes broad-scale distribution of 98 invasive plants and 4 feral deer species across Queensland. Pest species include restricted and prohibited (but present) invasive species defined in the Biosecurity Act (2014). Pests are mapped to a vector grid that covers all Queensland. Pest presence or absence is recorded for each grid cell. If a pest is present, an indication of density and distribution is recorded. 'Extirpated' cells indicate where the pest was historically present but has been removed or locally eradicated, and include records where the pest has not naturalised. 'Absent' cells have been removed to reduce dataset size. For widespread invasive plants (58 species)and feral deer (4 species), the information was collated via a series of mapping workshops across Queensland between September 2022 and June 2023, from 'invasive species experts' including representatives from Local and State Government, NRM groups, and other agencies involved in pest management. Where available, existing mapping sourced from Atlas of Living Australia, Feral Scan, Queensland Herbarium and datasets contributed by participants were used to inform the mapping. For the remaining 39 species, Biosecurity Queensland relied on internal datasets, cross-referenced against expert advice from Biosecurity Queensland operational personnel. The grid is based on the Australian 100k topographic map series, and the grid cell size is approx. 0.167 x 0.167 degree (10 mins) across all of Queensland.
