snippet: The Statewide Landcover and Trees Study (SLATS) has been mapping and reporting on woody vegetation clearing in Queensland since 1988 using Landsat satellite imagery. This dataset shows woody vegetation clearing detected in the 2014 - 2015 mapping period only. More information can be found in the report ‘Land cover change in Queensland 2014–15: Statewide Landcover and Trees Study. (2016) Department of Science, Information Technology and Innovation available online at http://www.qld.gov.au/environment/land/vegetation/mapping/slats-reports/

description: Woody vegetation clearing identified in this mapping period was assigned to a number of replacement land cover classes. These classes are assigned based on visual interpretation and reference to ancillary data. In select cases, additional codes are assigned to indicate where vegetation loss is due to natural causes. The classes are identified by the [code] attribute as follows: 1- Pasture; 2- Crop; 3- Settlement; 4- Mine; 5- Infrastructure; 6- Timber plantation; 7- Thinning; 8- Missed clearing in previous era; 10- Natural disaster damage; 11- Natural tree death. A range of satellite overpass dates is used to obtain coverage over Queensland. Consequently, SLATS mapping periods are not precise 365 day periods, and vary between satellite scenes. When reporting clearing over multiple mapping periods, SLATS converts the area of clearing detected, to an annual clearing rate, using the start and end date for each scene. The SLATS footprint dates dataset [Satellite image footprints and dates for SLATS analysis post-2012] records the satellite image dates used for each year. Refer to section 2 of the main report for more information.
