This dataset represents the approximate centreline of large, generally named terrestrial features (e.g., mountain ranges) and marine features (e.g., passages) within the State of Queensland, where the extent (width) is indistinct.
This Queensland wide dataset provides generalised information for topographical mapping purposes.
To provide an authorative single point of truth for large, generally named terrestrial and marine features (includes terms: beach, bluff, canyon, channel, coastal cliff, cliff, crag, cutting, dale, deep, escarpment, gorge, gutter, opening, passage, precipice, range, ravine, razorback, reach, ridge, seaway, strait, spur, the narrows, valley) within the State of Queensland, where the extent (width) is indistinct. The primary objective of this dataset is to provide a cartographic portrayal of Queensland's natural features and should be interpreted and utilised correctly. It is suitable for use in land administration, emergency management, topographic mapping and in the production of web based mapping applications.

Because of the size of the Torres Strait, the feature representing the Torres Strait has been included in the "Seas - Queensland" dataset.
Feature Types: BEACH - A named gently sloping shore which is washed by waves or tide - this may occur adjacent to sea, waterbody or watercourse
CLIFF - A high steep face of rock and or compacted soil that is an obstacle to movement (includes terms: Bluff, Coastal Cliff, Crag, Escarpment, Precipice).
PASSAGE - A named navigable channel, especially one through reefs or islands (includes terms: Channel, Cutting, Deep, Entrance, Gutter, Opening, Pass, Seaway, Strait, The Narrows).
RANGE - A named series of connected or aligned mountains or mountain ridges (includes terms: Mountain range, Razorback, Ridge, Spur) REACH - A named stretch of river between two bends.
VALLEY - A named long narrow depression in the Earth's surface usually containing a watercourse (includes terms: Canyon, Dale, Gorge, Ravine).
OTHER LINEAR LANDFORM - A large named natural linear feature not included in the above.

NAME (Name) - The name of the feature
ALTERNATE_NAME (Alternate Name) - An alternate name of the feature if available from the Queensland Place Names Database, otherwise left blank.
QLD_PNDB_ID (Qld PNDB ID) - Queensland Place Names Database unique identifier
ATTRIBUTE_SOURCE (Attribute Source) - The source map or data where the name of the feature was obtained from. ATTRIBUTE_DATE (Attribute Date) - Date of the source map or data where the name of the feature was obtained from. ADDITIONAL_NAMES (Additional Names) - Other names of the feature if not recorded in the Queensland Place Names Database. Maybe commonly known by other names or have different spelling. CREATED_DATE (Created Date) - The date the feature was originally captured and first loaded to the database

DIMENSION_M (Dimension (m)) - The dimension of the feature measured in square metres (Albers projection)

ADD_INFORMATION (Additional Informmation) - A comment field (additional information)
This dataset is stored in an ESRI Geodatabase. Some columns names may be shortened if downloaded in the ESRI shape format.

Initially for whole of state data capture, the location of the features was sourced from existing DNRM 25000 topographic data and maps, the Queensland Place Names Database and from Geoscience Australia 100000 and 250000 topographic data and maps. As better quality source information becomes availble (e.g. imagery, elevation data), the features are moved to the more accurate location. Data is also continually updated as errors, new named features and other items are known. Attributes within the data describe the primary source used to determine the spatial location of the feature and the primary source used to determine the name if available of the feature.
This dataset is GDA2020 Compliant. The source data, and therefore the captured features, were captured as GDA94 (horizontal only). This data has been projected to GDA2020 by using ArcGIS Pro geoprocessing tool Project geoprocessing. Using geographic transformation parameters ‘GDA94 to GDA2020 NTv2 3 Conformal’.
The data has also been processed to remove any redundant vertices by using ArcGIS Pro’s Simplify Line geoprocessing tool. Retain critical points (Douglas-Peucker) method was used for the Simplification Algorithm and a Simplification tolerance of 0.25m. The data was further processed using an ESRI validation in a Repair Geometry geoprocessing tool and deleting any features with Null geometry.
