 "description": "The data sets are organised into two group layers. The 'Structural Framework\nall' group provides the entire Structural framework dataset in one layer. The\n'Structural Framework by Age or Orogen' group provides the Structural\nframework in layers based on age and structural feature. The geological\nframework of Queensland is classified by structural or tectonic unit\n(provinces and basins) in which the rocks formed. These are referred to as\nbasins (or in some cases troughs and depressions) where the original form and\nstructure are still apparent. Provinces (and subprovinces) are generally older\nbasins that have been strongly tectonised and/or metamorphosed so that the\noriginal basin extent and form are no longer preserved. Note that intrusive\nand some related volcanic rocks that overlap these provinces and basins have\nnot been included in this classification. The map has been compiled using\nboundaries modified and generalised from the 1:2 000 000 Queensland Geology\nmap (2012). Subsurface basins are also shown and these are based on data and\npublished interpretations from petroleum exploration and geophysical surveys\n(seismic, gravity and magnetics). In April 2026 a boundary was added for the\nTaroom Trough, interpreted as the principal depocentre of the Bowen Basin. The\noutline shown uses the −3000 m depth to basement contour (Geognostics\nOZSEEBASE, 2021), as a visual guide to the basin\u2019s deeper structural domain;\nthis contour is provided for reference only and does not represent a formally\ndefined boundary. South Nicholson Basin - Extent revised July 2026 by NRMMRRD\nstaff, using a combination of the Australian Geological Provinces dataset,\n2018.01 edition, Geoscience Australia (GA) and Detailed Surface and Solid\ngeology - Queensland, published 2026-07-14. Capentaria Basin compiled using\nboundaries modified and generalised from the 1:2 000 000 Queensland Geology\nmap (2012). Minor revision was carried out by NRMMRRD staff in July 2026 using\nDetailed Surface and Solid geology - Queensland, published 2026-07-14 to match\nupdated South Nicholson Basin outcrop. Georgina Basin compiled using\nboundaries modified and generalised from the 1:2 000 000 Queensland Geology\nmap (2012). Subsurface extent is based on data and published interpretations\nfrom petroleum exploration and geophysical surveys (seismic, gravity, and\nmagnetics). A partial revision was carried out by NRMMRRD staff in July 2026\nusing Detailed Surface and Solid geology - Queensland, published 2026-07-14.\nWestern Subprovince compiled using boundaries modified and generalised from\nthe 1:2 000 000 Queensland Geology map (2012). September 2026 - The extent of the Carrara\nSub-basin was added, and is mostly defined from features in Geognostics\nOZSEEBASE (2021). The −7000 m contour (Geognostics OZSeeBASE, 2021) was\nselected as an approximate boundary as it coincides with a visible steepening\nin the depth-to-basement surface and encompasses a prominent negative gravity\nanomaly extending below −20 mGal, based on the Geoscience Australia gravity\nraster. Together these provide geomorphological support and independent\ngeophysical evidence for the interpreted Carrara depocentre within the South\nNicholson Basin.\n\nThis service provides access to the
