<suppInfo>The data in this layer is captured as part of the Rapid Gully Field Survey program. Gully and channel erosion features are the target of the field survey but other erosion features such as stream bank erosion, scalds and rills may be collected when observed.
To enable an accuracy assessment of the Gully Mapping Program’s 100m Gully Presence layer the same definition of gully erosion features is used when defining erosion features. Therefore, in the field, gully and associated channel erosion is considered to have: • a headcut, scarp front, channel or network of channels with lateral incisions in the land surface that are at least 1m wide,
• an incision depth of at least 0.3m,
• bare ground is present.
Further to this definition, gully erosion is considered to occur where the Watercourse Lines – Queensland layer has a Stream Order equal to or less than 2 and where active gully and channel erosion is present. Gully erosion can also occur in areas away from the Watercourse Lines – Queensland layer. The Watercourse Lines - Queensland layer with a Stream Order greater than 2 is used to define the stream network.
As well as assessing the erosion type and depth and width of gully and channel erosion features the following attributes are collected:
• XS_Shape: The cross-sectional shape of the gully or stream feature (‘U’ shaped, trapezoidal, ‘V’ shaped, dissected, wedge, tiered, multi-channel or rectangle).
• XS_Area_m2: the calculated cross-sectional shape of the gully erosion feature.
• Activity: the activity rate of the gully erosion feature (Active, partly stable, mostly stable).
• Continuity: the continuity of the gully erosion feature i.e. is the gully continuous or does it have several separate segments or is it just one small isolated feature (continuous, discontinuous, isolated).
• Connection: the connectivity of the gully erosion feature to the stream network (connected, unconnected).
• Lan_Domain: the landscape domain the gully erosion is located in (hillslope, local alluvium, riverine alluvium).
• Pattern: the pattern of the erosion (linear, branching, dendritic, open, scarp).
• Position: the position of the observation along the gully erosion feature (gully head, gully channel, gully/stream transition, stream channel).
• Floor_Mat: the material on the floor of the erosion feature.
• Soil: the estimated ASC of the soil.
• Geology: the estimated geology.
• Cont_Fact: the contributing factors that are impacting the erosion feature (road drainage, farm track, cattle pad/track, diversion structure, dam bywash/spill, over grazing).
