Official extracts (known as certified copy of entries) from the Queensland Heritage Register are available from the Department of Environment, Science and Innovation in accordance with s32 of the Queensland Heritage Act 1992. Application forms are downloadable from the DESI website https://www.qld.gov.au/environment/land/heritage/publications/. The boundaries represented in this dataset are intended to supplement and support such purposes as on-ground heritage management, development application assessment, and cultural heritage significance assessment. Accuracy assessments for individual boundaries is defined as a column value in the dataset. Degree of accuracy is measured by the value statements - 1) Actual: This description means a high confidence in the position and dimensions of the boundary. The source information used to determine the boundary was clear and easily related to the DCDB. This rating applies in cases such as: where the boundary of a listed place includes a whole property; to places where the boundary has been clearly identified onto a map of the cadastre as part of the nomination process; to entries where a scaled site plan with the listing boundary marked on it can be clearly related to a map of the cadastre; where the listing boundary coincides in part with the cadastral boundary and surveyed or GPS coordinates are provided for the remainder of the boundary. 2) Estimated: Means medium-level confidence of the accuracy of the boundary location and dimensions. Locational information may have been compiled from a number of sources to determine the boundary and its relation to the DCDB may not have been easily determined due to the poor quality of the source data. Additional research was undertaken to gather all available information and the estimates are considered informed and as accurate as possible though actual dimensions are subject to on ground assessment and/or survey. 3) Location Only: It has not been possible to digitise with a medium or high level of confidence the accuracy of the boundary. Possible reasons include the actual boundary has never been determined (common to places listed added to the Queensland Heritage Register in 1992 that were listed on the National Trust of Queensland List); the boundary has been recorded without suitable reference to the DCDB; the boundary forms only a small portion of a larger parcel and adequate survey or GPS coordinates are unavailable to determine the actual location; or the Heritage Register entry is missing other suitable information for accurate spatial mapping.

The project was a project undertaken by the Heritage Branch as part of the Cultural Heritage Information Management System (CHIMS) project. The source data was obtained directly from previously prepared entries to the Queensland Heritage Register. Existing maps of listing boundaries were digitised through various methods, including scanning and georeferencing of printed and published materials. Satellite imagery (IKONOS and Quickbird) and aerial photography (orthorectified imagery) was used where appropriate and available.
