Shows the location of the constrained land within Queensland that is managed by the Resource Planning team within the Department of Resources. Applications for exploration or mining permits for mineral, coal and petroleum over constrained land will be accepted, but they will require additional conditions before being granted.
This dataset contains the following land types:
Designated fossicking land - These areas have been established by the government in cooperation with local governments and landholders. They are signposted and publicised as part of a state wide network to assist the tourism industry. Commercial mining tenures are allowed in fossicking lands.
General permission area - Areas where landholders have given general permission for fossicking and camping on specific areas of their properties. Fossickers do not require the landholder's permission to fossick in these areas but must abide by any conditions of access and may be required to pay a fee.
Mining Policy decision and Miscellaneous noting - The Department of Resources is the custodian of mining and energy resources in Queensland. The department may be consulted by other agencies about proposed changes to land tenure or land uses and the impact on future resource activities. Until a decision is made the department may identify the area using the layers below to show that some action is occurring. Contact the Resources Planning and Intelligence team for further information.
Reserves - Consent is required under the MRA, from the trustees of land such as State Forests, Timber Reserves, Road Reserves and other Reserves under the Land Act 1994 (Land Act). A mining claim or mining lease cannot be granted over a reserve without consent or approval from the Governor in Council. A ‘reserve’ includes land dedicated as a reserve under the Land Act, or reserved and set apart under the repealed Act, as shown by the current particulars in the appropriate register.
