This map provides supporting information for assessments under the Vegetation Management Act 1999. The map incorporates elements of the regulated vegetation management map and the regional ecosystem (RE) mapping version 13.00. The remnant regional ecosystem maps and data are based on extensive field survey, analysis of aerial photographs, satellite imagery and detailed site data, and assessment of other data such as geology and soil mapping and historical survey plans. The survey and mapping of regional ecosystems of Queensland provides information and maps for business, landholders, regional groups, non-government organizations, government departments, local government and industry for planning and management of the natural environment, developments, and vegetation restoration.
The pre-clearing regional ecosystem maps and data are based on extensive field survey, analysis of aerial photographs, satellite imagery and detailed site data, and assessment of other data such as geology and soil mapping and historical survey plans. The survey and mapping of regional ecosystems of Queensland provides information and maps for business, landholders, regional groups, non-government organizations, government departments, local government and industry for planning and management of the natural environment, developments, and vegetation restoration.
The positional accuracy of RE data, mapped at a scale of 1:100,000 is 100 metres. The map scale of 1:50,000 applies to the Wet Tropics, part of south-eastern Queensland and New England Tableland. The map scale of 1:25,000 applies to the Brisbane City and Gold Coast City Council areas within south-eastern Queensland. Regional ecosystem descriptions are available for download on the Queensland Government website. (Search on: Regional Ecosystem Description Database). A layer indicating the boundaries of the differing scales is available upon request.

Polygons 100m; Sites +/- 10m. Positional accuracy of polygons is noted in the field 'L', which is a reliability code and given as either A, B or C for high, moderate and low confidence in accuracy of polygon boundaries. The level is determined on the basis of the reliability of interpretation of photopattern /reflectance of remotely sensed data (aerial photographs and rectified Landsat TM imagery) and on the positioning and frequency of sites and traverses.
Reliability code is contained in the field 'V' which refer to vegetation attributes - RE (regional ecosystem) and PERCENT accuracy and given as either A, B or C for high, moderate, and low confidence in accuracy of polygon attributes.
Logical consistency has been determined through the following:
• All polygons visually checked at 1:100,000 scale and by topological consistency checks.
• A test of consistency for regional ecosystem unit values (RE and PERCENT) between the pre-clearing and remnant coverages.

Complete. This dataset contains supporting information to accompany the regulated vegetation management map under the provisions of the Vegetation Management Act 1999. The map incorporates property maps of assessable vegetation current at the time of compilation. This map will be updated on a monthly cycle to ensure property maps of assessable vegetation are shown on the regulated vegetation management map following their certification.

This dataset is GDA2020 compatible. The source data, and therefore the captured features are georeferenced as GDA94 (horizontal only). The horizontal accuracy of the geo-referencing and/or data collection method for this example is greater than the datum offset between GDA94 and GDA2020 (1.8 meters). The resulting dataset has been nominated as a low-accuracy GDA2020 dataset. As this data has not been directly measured in GDA2020, nor transformed to GDA2020 the resulting data is 'GDA2020 Compatible', not Compliant.
Related polygon coverages include: pre-clearing vegetation communities and regional ecosystems, 1997, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2006b, 2009, 2011, 2013, 2015, 2017 and 2019 remnant regional ecosystems.
The pre-clearing vegetation is simply the vegetation before clearing. Mapping of pre-clearing vegetation is based on the interpretation of landscape as depicted on aerial photos or satellite imagery (Landsat, Spot), and ground truthed on a limited sample of known points. The Queensland Herbarium uses the 1:80,000 black and white 1960s photos as the standard imagery for mapping pre-clearing vegetation. The structural classification system is based on Walker and Hopkins (1990).
Where vegetation has already been cleared on these aerial photographs, the pre-clearing vegetation is reconstructed by the botanist using available information, including landform, soils, geology, field data (remnant roadside native vegetation) and ecological knowledge. In addition, historical survey records of vegetation types and older aerial photos (if they exist) are used extensively in this reconstruction.
Technical processes: Vegetation boundaries are drawn over aerial photographs and digitised. Boundaries are referenced primarily to rectified Landsat imagery (SLATS, DES) or to orthophotos if available. Field survey has provided partial verification of boundaries.
General Source Data: 1:80,000 B&W 1960s aerial photography, Landsat TM imagery rectified to 1:100,000 topographic maps, geology, soils and land systems data, topographic maps, field survey, existing field site data and existing mapped data (digital and hard-copy). Other reference data: National Estates (QLD), DCDB.
