This dataset displays the lakes (a naturally occurring body of mainly static water surrounded by land)covering Eastern, Western and Far North Queensland. The area covered includes all the east coast drainage basins that flow into the Coral Sea from the South Coast Drainage Basin (NSW border) to the Endeavour Drainage Basin (Cooktown) and the Fitzroy and Burdekin Drainage Basins as well as the and the western drainage basins of Balonne - Condamine, Border Rivers, Bulloo, Cooper Creek, Diamantina, Georgina, Hay, Moonie, Paroo, Warrego and the Cape York drainage basins of Archer, Coleman, Ducie, Embley, Holroyd, Jacky Jacky, Jardine, Lockhart, Olive Pascoe, Stewart, Watson and Wenlock. This dataset shows lakes greater than 625 sq. metres at full supply level. For lakes smaller than 625 sq. metres please refer to the Waterholes or Waterpoints datasets. A connector feature flows through lakes to create a continual linear network for hydrological modelling. Features have been attributed with name and name source where available and perenniality. Features have been captured or updated from the best available imagery with an attribute within the data describing the source and reliability. Those features within the coastal drainage basins have been captured at 1:25000 mapping specifications, while those features within the Fitzroy, Burdekin and the western drainage basins have been captured at 1:100000 mapping specifications and the Cape York drainage basins are captured at 1:50000 mapping specifications. Data sources include:
